Tubigon town is located on the northwestern coast of Bohol, about 54 kilometers from Tagbilaran City. The seaport is situated at the outskirts of the Poblacion, just less than 5 minutes ride away from the town center. It is newly renovated with the 240 square-meter widening and port rehabilitation work amounting to 64 million.
Tubigon seaport has a total port area of 1,080 square meters. A rock causeway of 700 meters long by 6 meters wide connects the port to the mainland. The pier is 126 meters x 8 meters with a berth of 120 meters.
Newly completed are 2 RORO terminals at more or less 9 meters wide each. Depth alongside or the draft is 2.50 meters. There are 4 clusters of fender files at 7 pieces per cluster; 9 pieces of bollards, and cleats – 7 pieces.
Storage facilities of the port is a transit shed which has an area of 200 square meters; and an open storage and back-up area of 400 square meters. The port area is also adequately lighted with 5 units steel lamp posts inside the pier and 5 units steel lamp posts at the causeway.
PPA-Tubigon has now a child care station as additional facility located at the passenger terminal. It is solely designed for lactating mothers who wish to give extra care for their babies.
Regular shipping companies that service the port are: Rolly Shipping Lines, Millanes Shipping Lines, JSC Shipping Lines, and Arrel Traders. Island Shipping Corporation and Kinswell Shipping Lines, Inc. have also several vessels plying the Tubigon-Cebu City route.
Being almost adjacent to Cebu City, the port plays host solely to sea vessels plying the Tubigon-Cebu City route. It is a major choice of travelers bound for Cebu and vice versa because of its numerous boat schedules. Travel time takes more or less two hours depending on boat type.
The Tubigon-Cebu City route is being served by 6 conventional vessels and 2 state-of-the-art fast crafts with a total of 20 trips daily, averaging more or less to 5,000 passengers daily. For the month of June 2007, volume of passengers reached a record high of 91,827 embarking and 77,185 disembarking.
Aside from the numerous boat schedules, vessels plying the Tubigon-Cebu City route offers reasonable fares to as low as P30 pesos making it a favorite choice of the budget conscious traveler. It is also convenient for the travelers since vans, buses, and other public vehicles are available and ply the routes to any point in Bohol.
Likewise, the Tubigon-Cebu City trip takes only at most two hours for ordinary vessels and 45 minutes for fast crafts while Tagbilaran-Cebu City as well as the Talibon-Cebu City route takes more or less four (4) hours for regular vessels. Fast crafts in Tagbilaran takes one and a half hour travel. For safety purposes, less time on the sea is sure less risky!
Vans traveling from Tagbilaran City to Tubigon take only less than an hour yet longer if you take a bus, about 2 hours at most. Vans travel non-stop to Tubigon while buses often stop to pick us passengers or stop for those who want to get off, causing the wide margin in travel time.
As per article written by Mr. Armando R. Reserva on July 2, 2007, the Tubigon Port’ expansion program is still on-going. Although the 240 square-meter widening and port rehabilitation work is now 100% completed, there are still more projects to be done.
According to PPA Terminal Manager Yolando Ponce, the 700 meter causeway wharf road will be widened by nine meters and the reclamation of one hectare is reduced by half as originally planned. However, the reclamation of the causeway road is temporarily suspended as there is a need to excavate bottom silt that may affect the strength of the construction.
On the reclaimed area will rise a 400-capacity passenger terminal complete with amenities, and a multi-purpose building to house the PPA, Coast Guard, MARINA and other government agencies with related activities such as the quarantine offices. Parking areas will also be provided for tricycles, v-hires, owner vehicles and motorcycles.
A covered catwalk will be built on the wharf road for passengers who opt to walk while ambulant vendors will be relocated to a building that will be purposely built for them.
PPA-Tubigon is manned by six personnel headed by Ponce, a senior terminal officer, two terminal officers and three subordinates.
Trips from Tubigon to Cebu City and vice versa are available daily.
